Adam Rippon became an overnight sensation in 2018 as a member of the U.S. Figure Skating team that won a bronze medal at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. But, as he chronicles in his hilarious, heartwarming memoir “Beautiful on the Outside,” his success on the Olympic ice was the culmination of a two-decade roller-coaster journey of ups and downs.
In this talk, Adam shares anecdotes and life lessons from his career as a professional figure skater, from hardscrabble training days of couch surfing and subsisting on green apples, to the agony of failing to qualify for the 2014 Olympics, to ultimately finding the self-belief and self-actualization that led to his greatest triumph as America’s first openly gay Winter Olympian.
